CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN
posted in Mydish's blog on Mon Nov 26 2007
My good friend Shirley Conran has given me her countdown tips for Christmas from her Superwoman Yearbook - here is a summary with a little of my additions thrown in.
I think we will do it in 2 parts - what are the first things you need to think about for Christmas aside from the food!!!
1. Cards - create your list and buy your cards
2. Advent Calendar - Only a few more days till we start opening doors
3. Presents - End of term teacher pressies (our class do a joint pressie which is a really good way of getting something the teacher likes)
4. Decorations - check last year's to see what is broken and needs repairing
5. For those of you who use replica trees - double check you have the all the bits and that the lights do not need replacing.
6. Drinks - plan and order at the beginning of December
Let me know if you can think of anything else to share

And order the turkey (goose or rib of beef) from the butcher now to collect a few days before Christmas..
If you haven't already then make your Christmas pudding so it has time to mature - feed it with alcohol regularly which will allow the flavours to fully develop.

Oh I forgot to mention the Christmas cake as this is always best made a few weeks in advance. And remember for a rich and moist cake, spoon over a few tablespoons of brandy every week until you are ready to ice and decorate your cake.

Could I put a case for inviting over friends and the darlings you never saw on Christmas Day, for a late lunch on Boxing Day?
It's a bit slower, more mellow and relaxed... expectations, perhaps, not so demanding.

How about making your own christmas decorations, I remember wonderful edible ones (like gingerbread men) hanging on the tree from my childhood. Does anyone have any good recipes for this kind of thing?
