Tasty, nutritious, home-cooked recipes require good quality, fresh ingredients. That’s what my mum told me and that’s how I cook for my family. But now there’s a certain Celebrity Chef who is suggesting that ingredients do not necessarily need to be fresh for you to make great tasting, good quality food. In fact all you need is a tin of this, a jar of that and some frozen mashed potato et voila...
No matter how I try I can’t subscribe to this, I don’t believe that tinned minced meat (with a 3 month shelf life) can be turned into a delicious bolognaise or that processed lamb can magically become a nutritious casserole. Doubtless these meals tick the box for quick and easy but surely they can’t taste as good as recipes cooked from scratch?
I can’t help cynically wondering whether this is yet another attempt to re-invent herself. Let’s not forget, it was not so long ago, that she took us all ‘back to basics’ and taught us how to boil an egg. What’s next? Recipes with freeze-dried astronauts food.
What is your view?? Let us know your thoughts..

Cooking doesn't have to be time consuming - you can easily whip up a nutritious meal in minutes - healthy chicken salad, pasta with a fresh sauce or grilled fish etc. There is nothing better than spending the afternoon cooking (unfortunately I don't do this v often as I don't have the time) and if I do I alway try and make extra's so I can freeze that bolognaise sauce, chicken stock for soup etc....but frozen mash potato a no no from me!
