Denise Phillips is a Prue Leith trained chef who during the 1990’s ran a successful catering company and in 2000 moved into cookery writing. Starting with articles in magazines such as Ms London, Cosmopolitan and Vegetarian Society, Denise now has a number of weekly columns in the secular and the Jewish press both here and in the US, has regular features in over 50 synagogue magazines and as a result is probably the foremost exponent of modern Jewish cookery with style. Her regular publications include : Jewish Press – largest Jewish newspaper in the world USA – available in the UK as well as all over the USA. Jewish News – leading London Jewish newspaper – weekly column Jewish Recorder – monthly issue Chabad – orthodox Jewish sector Jewish Advocat – weekly – Boston, USA Jewish Life Styles – monthly journal – LA, USA Jewish Vegetarian Society – monthly – available UK and USA Her books include The Book of Jewish Cooking ( 2002), Modern Jewish Cooking with Style (2003) , Jewish Mama's Cookbook ( 2005) with a further book planned for 2007. Her recipes and name also now feature on the leading brand of kosher ready meals sold in all major supermarkets and Denise appears regularly in the mainstream media, with recent interviews on BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio London, her own show on Shalom FM and several appearances on TV including ITV’s This Morning in 2006 for a feature on Chicken Soup and BBC1 in 2007 for Date On A Plate. She is an active member of the Food Writers Guild and in 2007 was a judge in the Cookery Writing Awards. In addition to writing, Denise also runs a popular cookery school with fortnightly classes teaching everything from stylish desserts to everyday healthy main meals and she has adapted the format to create “Date On A Plate” cookery courses for singles ( six men and six women, meet, learn to cook and then eat a full three course meal) and “Hen On A Plate” fun filled evenings of cooking, learning and eating for pre-wedding parties.
