The Basics

  • Dish: Main Course
  • cuisine: Italian
  • Serves: 3-6
  • Prep Time: 1hrs 35 mins
  • Cooking Time: 0hrs 12 mins

Ingredients

  • 2 tsp Sunflower oil
  • pinch salt (I don't as we are a salt free house)
  • 4 cups Strong white bread flower
  • ¾ satchet fast action yeast
  • as required tomatoe sauce (for base)
  • as required pepperoni/sausage/ham etc
  • as required garlic/onion/peppers/mushrooms etc
  • as required Grated cheese
  • as required Mozzarella cheese
  • 3 tsp Honey
  • 1 and ¼ cup warm water

Method

I prepare the pizza base on a dough setting in my breadmaker but you could also make by hand and leave for 1 hour to rise. (cover and place in a warm room)

Making the dough:

It is essential you add the ingredients in this order:

Water
Honey
Oil
Salt
Bread flour
(make a well in flour with finger but should not go through to liqud)
Add yeast to well

Set your machine to dough setting
This take 1 hr 30 mins on my machine.

Toppings:

Whilst the dough is prepared you can choose your favourites toppings and chop them ready.

Grate your cheese and mix a combination of your favourite cheese with a nice mozzarella.

Making the base:

Once your dough is risen cut it in to pieces.
With quantity I make 2 extra large pizza and 4 small pizza's but it depends on how thin you like your base. A deeper base will make less.

Flour your worktop and rolling pin.
Roll out your dough to desired thickness and transfer to a baking tray or pizza stone.

Smooth a thin layer of tomatoe base and then add your favourite toppings, cheese and black pepper.

Pre-heat your oven to 200 degrees and cook for 10-12 mins. Turn half way. Ready when cheese is golden and bubbling.

leave to cool a little...if you can be patient!!! Enjoy.
