Put oven on low and insert plates to warm including an extra plate
Season steaks well with salt and pepper
Cut onions and mushrooms into slices and
Heat mix of oil and butter in a frying pan
Add onions until they start to brown. Remove and put on plate.
Do the same with the mushrooms. Depending on the size of your pan you can cook the mushrooms with the onions although the onions will need more time.
Add more butter and oil as required and heat pan. Sear steaks on both sides and then cook on a med/high heat. Cook for a few minutes each side for a rare steak and increase the time depending on how you like your steak.
Serve with mash and a couple of green vegetables.
