Method

  • 1. Peel and core the apples.

  • 2. Fill the hole with sugar and the butter then brush over the hole with some cold water.

  • 3. Mix the paste and fold it round each apple. making sure the edges are wet and pressed together well on the underside.

  • 4. Put the apples ona greased tray and sprinkle them with some cold water. Bake for 1/2 hour in a hot oven.

    • I made apple dumplings yesterday. My recipe uses suet and self raising flour. Fill the hole with sugar before placing on the circles of pastry. Yummy but not very healthy.

    • ¼ lb. dripping
    • ½ tbs. salt
    • ¼ tbs. grated lemon rind (if liked)
    • 2 tbs. sugar
    • size of bean butter
