1 - Heat your oven to gas mark 4
2 - Peel and slice your potatoes, place them in a pan of salted water and bring to the boil. Cook for 10 minutes, drain the potatoes and put to one side.
3 - Butter a medium size oven proof dish and begin placing the slices of potatoes in the dish. Season the potatoes as you layer them up, adding some crushed garlic on each layer.
4 - Pour over the cream until the potato is covered, add a little milk if needed. Top with your grated cheese and place in the oven for 25 mins.
