Heat butter and oil in pan, add onions and garlic, cook, stirring, until onions are soft. Add chicken, cook until tender. Stir in mushrooms, undrained crushed tomatoes, paste, wine, sugar and pepper. Bring to boil, simmer, uncovered, until sauce has thickened slightly; stir in basil.
Serve with rice.
