Mom's Thanksgiving Squash and Apple Casserole

Method

  • 1 - Peel the squash and remove seeds and then bake
  • at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for approximately 50 minutes or until soft.Bake the sweet potatoes or yams and remove the skins.

  • 2- Mash the squash and potatoes together in a large bowl and mix in the spices.

  • 3- Layer half of the squash/potato mixture in the bottom of a casserole dish. Next layer apple slices, half of the butter and more cinnamon.

  • 4- Repeat both squash/potato layer followed by another layer of apple slices and butter.

  • 5- Bake the casserole at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 35 minutes.

  • The proportion of squash/yams/sweet potatoes used in this recipe can be changed as desired.
  • Ingredients

    • 1 or 2 large Butternut squash
    • 4 Sweet potatoes/yams
    • 2 Apples
    • 1tbs Brown sugar
    • 1tbs Butter
    • A lot! Cinnamon
    • Pinch Nutmeg or allspice
    • Pinch Ground ginger
