Apple Crumble

  • This is a great winter comfort food, cheap and easy to make.

    Ingredients

    • 450g 1lb Cooking Apples
    • 75g 3 oz Granulated Sugar
    • 175g 6oz Plain Flour
    • 75g 3oz Butter
    • 50g 2oz Caster Sugar`

    Method

    • Heat oven at 180C.

      Peel, core and slice the apples. Put into a 1.1 litre (2 pint) ovenproof dish, sprinkle over the granulated sugar.

      Sift flour into a bowl. Rub butter into flour until it resembles fine breadcrumbs. Stir in the sugar.
      Sprinkle crumble thickly over fruit.

      Bake at 190C for 15 minutes. Reduce to 180C for a further 45 minutes until top is lightly brown.
