Mince & Dumplings

  • I like this recipe as it is a North East of England favourite! It's a tasty meal even more so in the winter, enjoy.

    Ingredients

    • 2 medium Onion
    • pinch Salt
    • pinch Pepper
    • 1 desert spoon Worcester Sauce
    • 1 table spoon Oil
    • 50g Suet
    • 100g Self Raising Flour
    • 5 table spoons Water
    • 500g Lean minced beef
    • 1 pint Boiling water
    • 5 heaped desert spoons Gravy granules

    Method

    • Heat the oven to 150 degrees celsius

      Chop the onions into small peices

      Add the oil to a pan then add the onion

      Once the onion is soft, add the minced beef to the pan, cook until browned

      Meanwhile boil a pint of water in the kettle and add 5 heaped desert spoons of gravy granuals into a jug

      Pour a pint of boiling water over the gravy granuals, mix until smooth

      Add the worcester sauce, salt and pepper stiring them into the meat

      Pour the gravy into the pan containing the meat and simmer for 5 minutes

      Put the suet, plain flour and a pinch of salt to a bowl and mix

      Measure 5 table spoons of water pouring into the bowl, knead into a stiff dough

      Divide the dough into 8 balls

      Remove the mince from the heat and place into an oven proof dish

      Place the 8 balls of dough in the mince so they are half covered

      Cook in the oven for 40 minutes or until the dumplings are crispy and brown on the top but soft in the middle
