Method

  • Put 125ml of hot water in a bowl and add the gelatine. Stir until well mixed and dissolved. Or follow instructions on the gelatine you buy.

  • Stir this into the chocolate milk and put into a large clear bowl. Chill for 30-40 minutes until just beginning to set.

  • Press some jelly frogs, snakes, crocodiles, bugs or whatever suitably-shaped sweets you want, into this chocolate jelly and put it back in the fridge until it has completely set.

  • Make up the green jelly according to the instructions, let it cool (but not set) and then pour on top of the chocolate mix and chill until firm.

  • Slice the angelica into thin strips and push a few strands into the chilled green jelly to look like pond weed. Add a few sugar flowers to look like water lilies and add a few more frogs, sharks, skeletons, or whatever you fancy to add the finishing touches.

    • If the chocolate milk/gelatine and the green jelly get a bit mixed-up together, don't worry. The end result is fine if it looks like a muddy swamp. That's the whole idea.

This was a great hit when we had a family phantom night to celebrate my son's october birthday.

My son LOVES Hallowee'en and his birthday is on October 22 so we often have a Hallowe'en theme. But I have never let my children go "trick or treating" because personally I think it's a nasty custom. (Give us free stuff or we'll do something horrible Read More
