Method

  • the yellow split peas must be cooked seperately first place them in a small saucepan and add boilig water. cook them untl almost done. drain and leave until reqired later on at stage 3.

  • 1. add oil to a lage saucepan. Then finely chop the onion and add to the saucepan. allow onions to cook unil golden.
  • 2. add the mince meat to the onions stirring frequently until the mince has browned then add salt and pepper to season as well as the mint.
  • 3. now add the split peas and sliced courgettes with roughly a pint of water (top up if needed).
  • 4. bring to boil then reduce heat and alow to simmer until the courgettes are cooked through and soft. appox 30 mins
  • 5. ready to serve

  • Tips

    • Best served with rice

    • 500g lean steak mince
    • 1 large onion
    • 45g dried mint
    • 250g Yellow split peas
    • 100g Tomato puree
    • 1 pint water
    • 1tbsp vegetable oil
    •  salt and pepper for seasoning
    • 4 - 5 sliced courgettes

    This is an Egyptian dish thats been passed onto me from my grandparents. It is one of my favourite dishes an is a classic family dish from my childhood.
