Method

  • Drain & well rinse the herring, reserving the juice & onions for later. Scrape the skin off with a serrated knife, rinse again & chop

  • Blitz the challah (or spongecake), kickels, appls, 3 of the eggs, herring & onions from the jar. Add the sugar & pepper to taste. If too thick, add some of the juice from the herring.

  • Put in a dish, grate remaining egg over it & refrigerate.
  • Ingredients

    • 1 Jar Bismark or Eliko Herring
    • 115 g Stale challa
    • 4 Hard boiled eggs shells removed
    • 8 Plain Kickels or biscuits
    • 1 Apple peeled and cored
    • 1 Tbsp Granulated Sugar
    • To taste white Pepper
