Method

  • Put a dash of olive oil in a large frying pan and add the chopped onion and cook on a low heat untill translucent

  • Add the mushrooms

  • Add the garlic

  • Push the mixture to the side of the pan and add the mince beef and fry moving the mince about so its nice and fine and not clumpy and no pink remains.

  • Carefully drain some of the fat off

  • Push mixture to the side again and add the puree and fry for 1 minute then combine with the mixture.

  • Add the oregano and basil and stir in.

  • Add the tin of tomatoes and the bay leaves and the worcester sauce. simmer for 15 mins. 5 mins before the end of cooking add the cream.

  • Remove bay leaves and serve with pasta.
  • Tips

    • I use this recipe for both spaghetti and lasagne. When i do a lasagne i double up on the ingredients. I like to make extra so i can freeze it.

      For a vegetarian version use quorn mine or add a selection of par cooked chopped vegetables

    • 250g Minced beef
    • 1 large onion. chopped
    • 3 large garlic cloves. crushed
    • 1 heaped tbls tomato puree
    • 1 can Tinned tomatoes
    • 3 Medium Mushrooms
    • 1 tsp Dried Oregano
    • 1tsp Dried basil
    • 3 Bay Leaves
    •  olive oil to fry
    • dash worcester sauce
    • dash cream
