Method

  • - fry the mince until cooked with the finely chopped onion & garlic in a little oil
  • - in a seperate pan / steamer cook the pototoes until soft
  • - add the thyme or sage & tinned tomatoes & Marmiteto the mince and add the diced carrots. Simmer for 15 mins / until the potatoes are ready to be mashed
  • - pour mixture into a deep based oven-proof dish, thicken mixture with gravy granules as required
  • - mash the potatoes & add a handful of grated cheddar & mix in
  • - add the cheesey mash to the top of the mixture, then sprinkle thyme/sage & dried breadcrumbs on top of the mash if desired
  • - heat in the oven @ 200 deg C only to brown the topping - to make a nice crispy top!
  • Tips

    • For a SLIGHTLY healthier recipe, you could add a tablespoon of horseradish sauce to the mash instead of cheese!

      this is such a filling pie, I just steam a bit of brocolli to have on the side!

    • 500g lean beef mince
    • 1 large onion chopped
    • 2 garlic cloves
    • 400g Tinned tomatoes
    • pinch or 2 Thyme or Sage
    • 4 large carrots diced
    • 4 large potatoes. boiled and peeled
    • handful Mature Cheddar
    • 1 tbsp Marmite
    • 1 tbsp Beef gravy granules
    • to cook veg Water
    • sprinkle Breadcrumbs (dried)
