Chilli Con Carne*

Method

  • METHOD:
  • 1. Finely chop the onion and crush the garlic to a paste. Empty the can of kidney beans into a sieve and rinse with cold water. Allow to drain.
  • 2. Heat the oil in a frying pan on a medium heat and add the onion. Add Chilli powder and Ground Cumin. Cook until it is soft and beginning to brown. Add the garlic and continue to cook for a further minute. Transfer to a large saucepan.
  • 3. Brown the mince in 3-4 batches and add to the onion mixture.
  • 4. On a gentle heat, mix together the browned meat and onion mixture and stir in the Heinz Chopped Tomatoes, Heinz Cream of Tomato Soup, hot chilli powder, ground cumin, soft dark brown sugar and the kidney beans.
  • 5. Bring to the boil and cook on a medium heat for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add additional chilli powder or ground cumin if required.
  • 6. Season to taste with salt and freshly ground black pepper.

    • FOR THE MARINADE:
    • 1 large onion
    • 2-3 cloves garlic
    • 240g can of kidney beans (drained weight)
    • 1 tbsp sunflower oil
    • 500g minced beef
    • 260g can of Heinz Chopped Tomatoes (drained weight)
    • 300g can of Heinz Cream of Tomato Soup
    • 1 tsp hot chilli powder
    • 1 tsp ground cumin
    • 1 tbsp soft dark brown sugar
    •  Salt and freshly ground black pepper
