Method

  • 1. Set the oven to moderate,Gas Mark 4/350F/180C.
  • 2. Make the pastry:
  • Mix all the pastry ingredients together to form a soft dough.Turn out onto a floured surface and knead until smooth,then roll out to an oblong shape measuring 10inx14in.
  • 3. Make the filling:
  • Heat the oil and fry the onion until soft,then add the mince and cook for 10 minutes until well browned.Pour off any excess fat from the pan.
  • Mix in the carrots,mixed herbs,seasonings and water.
  • Leave aside to cool slightly ,then spread the pastry with tomato ketchup.
  • Spread the minced mixture over the pastry evenly,then roll up loosely.
  • Place on a greased baking sheet and cover with greased foil.Bake for about 1 1/4 hrs,until pastry is light and crumbly.

    • going to try this tonight but seems a bit strange to add water not stock so i am adding a stock cube will let u know how the family like it later

    Ingredients

    • FOR THE PASTRY:
    • 10 oz self raising flour
    • 4 oz Shredded suet
    • 1 egg beaten
    • ¼ pint milk
    • FOR THE FILLING:
    • 1 tbsp oil
    • 1 onion.peeled and finely chopped
    • 1 lb Minced beef
    • 4 oz carrots.grated
    • 1 tsp mixed herbs
    •  salt and pepper
    • ¼ pint water
    • 2 tbsp tomato ketchup
