Method

  • 1. Take a plastic container with lid large enough to hold the beef fillet and ¼ fill with the Soya Sauce.

  • 2. Chop the ginger, chilli and garlic and add to the Soya sauce in the container.

  • 3. Place the meat into the container and turn to allow juice to infuse. Sprinkle sugar onto meat and keep turning.

  • 4. Put lid on carton and place in the fridge for a minimum of 12 hours turning sporadically.

  • 5. When ready (the longer you leave it the tastier it will be) cook by searing in a hot pan to taste. Alternatively slice thinly and flash cook on a hot stone for a more theatrical presentation.

    • I have the beef marinading in the fridge for tonight's dinner - I can't wait to try it, it sounds amazing (smells it too!)

    • I've made an economical version of your recipe by substituting fillet steak for cheap frying steak and cooking the lot in a casserole dish for about 45 mins at gas mark 4. And then transfer the sauce to a hot pan to thicken up. All of the flavours for about one tenth of the price! ...Not the same texture though. I would have preffered fillet steak!!

    • Do you have the recipe for the asian salad please. Sounds fab.

Did you sear the beef and then reduce the sauce afterwards or just put the whole lot in?

    • Hi Chevsk,
Pour all the contents into a hot pan (make sure the pan is very hot). The juices/marinade will reduce as you cook. Hope you and your husband enjoy it as much as I do.

    • Sorry I know this sounds ridiculous but I am hopeless!

I would like to cook this for a birthday meal for my husband. Once the beef is marinated and you come to cook it, do you cook it in the sauce / marinade or is it just the beef that you cook?

      Thanks

    • Served this as one of the dishes in an indonesian style meal and it was a great success. I marinaded the beef for 24 hours which really intensified the flavours. Will definitely be cooking this again!

    • This sounds delicious and very similar to a recipe I make, which adds a good helping of wasabi paste to the rest of ingredients. Sweet and spicy! Can be served with an asian salad (with clementines and cashew nuts) or with wasabi mashed potatoes. Yum.
