Tridoshic Kichdi (rice and Lentils, Aryuvedic Style)

Method

  • 1Heat ghee in a sauce pan, add cumin seeds and let it splutter for few seconds
  • 2Add asoefedita and curry leaf
  • 3After the leaf change color, add onion
  • 4Mix for few minutes till onion is well transparent
  • 5Add the remaining ingredients and water (rule is twice the volume of rice plus dhal)
  • 6Add vegetables, try instead asparagus or any other vegetable variation
  • 7Reduce heat and let simmer until all is cooked, about 35-40 mins.



  • Tips

    • Kidney cleanse-Vata, -Pitta, -Kapha
      Asparagus, Dandelion (available in any garden!, choose young and remote leaves)
      Spices: add Fennel seeds, Asofedita

      Blood Cleanse-Vata, -Pitta, -Kapha
      Artichoke and Burdock Root (available in most Indian or Turkish shops)

      Digestive supporting-Vata, +Pitta, -Kapha
      Carrots Zucchini, Pumpkin
      Spices: add Turmeric, Ginger, Chilli powder

    Ingredients

    • 100g Basmati rice. washed
    • 100g yellow split beans (mung Dhal)
    • 400g Water
    • 1 med. onion chopped
    • 200g mixed vegetables (read tip)
    • SPICES FOR TRIDOSHIC EFFECT
    • ½ teaspoon cumin seeds
    • ¼ teaspoon asoefedita powder
    • 1 dried curry leaf
    •  salt to taste
    • 2 teaspoons Ghee (claryfied Butter) or vegetable oil
