The Best Apple Crumble

The best apple crumble, this is really easy and always goes down well with everybody, especially when its cold. Great confort food!

The Basics

Dish: Dessert and Sweets

Cuisine: English

Serves: 6

Prep Time: 0hrs 15 mins

Cooking Time: 0hrs 30 mins

Ingredients

5oz brown sugar

3½ oz cold butter cut into peices

a pinch salt

5oz plain flour

2oz rolled oats

3 large cooking apples peeled and cut thickly into slices

Method

Firstly put on the oven at 200 degrees c/ gas 6.
Put the apples into a saucepan with the 2ozs of the sugar and cook over a gentle heat for 5-6 mins or until just begining to soften.
To make the crumble topping, mix together the flour and salt and rub in the butter until it looks like breadcrumbs.
Stir in the oats and remaining sugar.
Spoon fruit into a fairly deep dish and cover with crumble mixture.
Bake for 30 mins until the top has nicely browned.
Serve with a nice fat induceing portion of thick cream or custard, yum!

Just what I was looking for... a nice simple Apple Crumble recipe that uses oats!

If you've got an aga its even easier to cook the apples - just put them into and oven proof dish with a little water and sugar and place them in the baking oven for a minimum of 4hrs - they come out absolutely perfect and do not need to be watched while they cook so you can get on with your other preparations
