Method

  • Chop all veg, i usually grate one of the carrots and sometimes the potato.

  • For the broth mix you could just buy a bag of it from the shops, but i personally don,t like the dried peas that are always in it so i make my own, you could also add some rice if you wanted to.

  • Add a couple of handfuls in with the veg. Saute with a large knob of butter for few minutes.

  • Then add stock.

  • Simmer for about 45-50 minutes until the pulses and veg are cooked.

  • At the end add in chopped parsley and salt and pepper.

    • Hi MoggieMorris...Sorry, i never measure it normally, but its roughly 75g (or a couple of handfuls)of the broth mix. Hope it turns out nice.

    Ingredients

    • VEGETABLES
    • 1 onion chopped
    • 1 stalk Celery. diced
    • 1 small leek
    • 3 large carrots
    • 1 small or ½ large turnip diced
    • 1 medium Potato chopped
    • BROTH MIX
    •  red split lentils
    •  green split peas
    •  yellow split peas
    •  pearl barley
    • OTHER STUFF
    • enough to fill your pot chicken stock
    •  parsley
    •  salt and pepper
