Method

  • 1. whisk eggs and 7oz of the sugar until thick and creamy
  • 2.warm butter in evaporated milk until melted.
  • 3. stir the egg and butter mix together
  • 4. fold in the sieved flour to make a smooth batter.
  • 5. pour into a greased and lined 8in square tin
  • 6 arrange apple slices on top
  • Bake170 fan oven,after 30mins sprinkle with remaining sugar bake another 5 to 10 mins
  • Tips

    • serve cold or slightly warm with cream
      can use an oblong tin about 10x8,which makes cake not quite as deep.because it is a batter mix check after 25 mins,insert a sharp knife in centre which should come out clean to see if it is done

    • 4oz butter or margarine
    • 8oz castor sugar
    • 6oz Evaporated Milk
    • 2 beaten eggs
    • 10oz Bramley apples. peeled. cored and sliced
