Preheat oven to 180°C.
Lightly grease a 7-8 inch baking tin (square tin better).
Place the butter, soft brown sugar, golden syrup, lemon zest and juice in a large sauce pan and stir until butter has melted.
Remove from the heat and stir in oats and figs.
Spoon into cake tin, pressing down and bake for about 20 mins until golden brown.
Remove from oven and leave to cool in the tin.
Once cool turn out onto board and cut into squares.
You can add other dried fruits as well - apricots, cranberries, stem ginger etc.
