1. Preheat oven to 180oC and grease 2 large baking sheets.
2. Cream butter and two sugars with electric mixter.
3. In another bowl, mix egg and vanilla essence then gradually beat into the butter mixture.
4. Sift over the flour, bicarbonate of soda and salt. Stir.
5. Add chocolate chips and nuts. Mix well to combine.
6. Place heaped teaspoonfuls of the dough 2 inches apart on the prepared sheets. Bake until lightly coloured (10-15mins).
7. Transfer to rack to cool.
