Method

  • 1. Pre-heat oven to 190°C: 375°F: Gas 5.

  • 2. In a large bowl, combine the dry ingredients.
  • Rub in butter until mixture looks like breadcrumbs.

  • 3. Add the egg, with enough water so the dough has a pastry consistency.

  • 4. Roll the dough on a lightly floured surface into 1/4 inch thickness, cut into rounds.

  • 5. Place on an un-greased baking tray.
  • Bake for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown.

  • 6. Allow to cool for a few minutes then remove to wire racks.

  • Great with a cuppa or try spreading with cream cheese or jam.

    • 400g Whole wheat flour
    • 110g Dark brown sugar
    • 110g Butter
    • 60ml Hot water
    • 1 Egg. beaten
    • 1tsp Baking powder
    • 1tsp Cream of tartar
