Ingredients

  • BEER BATTER
  • 1 cup beer
  • 1 cup Plain flour
  • 1 egg
  • pinch salt
  • FISH AND CHIPS
  • 1 large potato per person
  • 4 fillet of hake or cod
  • 1 litre veg oil

Method

  • Mix batter ingredients in bowl or large measuring jug. Beat for a minute until it comes together.

Peel potatoes and cut in to chip shapes. If you have time par boil for 4 mins, but if you do this be sure to dry them thoroughly afterwards.

Heat oil until VERY hot in a deep pan. Add chips and fry until brown (usually rise to the surface when done). Should be no more than 10 mins.

Remove chips from pan and set aside on plate and dab with kitchen paper to soak up oil, sprinkle with a little salt.

Dip fish in batter and drop in to pan. Cook until golden, drain and pat with kitchen paper.

Serve with a wedge of lemon and some tartare sauce.
