Home Made Fish and Chips

Method

  • Mix batter ingredients in bowl or large measuring jug. Beat for a minute until it comes together.

  • Peel potatoes and cut in to chip shapes. If you have time par boil for 4 mins, but if you do this be sure to dry them thoroughly afterwards.

  • Heat oil until VERY hot in a deep pan. Add chips and fry until brown (usually rise to the surface when done). Should be no more than 10 mins.

  • Remove chips from pan and set aside on plate and dab with kitchen paper to soak up oil, sprinkle with a little salt.

  • Dip fish in batter and drop in to pan. Cook until golden, drain and pat with kitchen paper.

  • Serve with a wedge of lemon and some tartare sauce.

    • BEER BATTER
    • 1 cup beer
    • 1 cup Plain flour
    • 1 egg
    • pinch salt
    • FISH AND CHIPS
    • 1 large potato per person
    • 4 fillet of hake or cod
    • 1 litre veg oil
