Doughnuts For Hanukah

The Basics

Ingredients

  • 6 oz Flour
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • 1tsp Baking Powder
  • 2 oz Margarine
  • 1 oz Sugar
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 tbsp Milk
  • a little Raspberry Jam
  •  Extra sugar/cinnamon for dusting
  •  Oil for frying

Method

1. Sieve flour salt and baking powder.

2. Rub in margarine, add sugar and mix to a dough with beaten egg and milk.

3. Turn mixture on to a floured board and roll out to 1/4" thick

4. Using small pastry cutters cut into small rounds

5. Put a little raspberry jam (or leave plain if preferred) onto one half of these circles.

6. Brush the other half with milk and put the two together, pinching carefully around the edges.

7. Fry in very hot oil for 6-8 mins.

8. Place on crumpled kitchen roll to drain off excess oil then roll in sugar or a mixture of cinnamon and sugar
