Method

  • * Saute onion, leek, celery and carrots in tbsp olive oil for 5 mins.
  • * Add minced beef and stir until browned all over.
  • * Add all stock ingredients, bring to the boil, then turn down to a simmer, and cook for 40 minutes.
  • * When cooked, put into a large dish, cover with mashed potatoes, and cover with grated cheese.
  • * Put in oven Gas Mark 6 / 200 c, for 30 / 40 minutes until golden.

  • Serve with garden peas or steamed broccoli.
  • Tips

    • If you have time, make it (or at least the meat part), the day before to let all the flavours infuse together.

    Ingredients

    • TOPPING
    • 800g best lean mince beef
    • 1 onion. chopped
    • 1 Leek. chopped
    • 2 Carrots, grated
    • 4 Celery Sticks. finely chopped
    • STOCK
    • 3 Beef oxo cubes. in 450ml hot water
    • 2 Knorr beef stock cubes & 2 tbsp Bisto granules. in 450ml hot water
    •  Garlic powder
    •  Salt & pepper
    • dash Worcestershire sauce
    •  Tomato puree
    •  Heinz Tomato Ketchup
    •  HP sauce
    • 2 tsp Thyme
    • TOPPING
    • 2.5KG Potatoes. make into Mashed Potatoes
    •  Cheddar Cheese . grated
