Method

  • 1. Beat 4 egg whites ( Top Tip: Make different coloured Halloween ghosts by adding a drop of food colouring to the egg white mixture before baking. ) in a bowl ( Top Tip: Make sure your bowl is very clean and dry. ) until they stand in stiff peaks.

  • 2. Add half the caster sugar and beat well. Gradually add the remaining sugar a tablespoonful at a time until the mixture is stiff and glossy.

  • 3. Dollop large spoonfuls of the mixture onto 2 baking trays with baking paper, and shape into ghosts, snowmen or Christmas trees.

  • 4. Bake in a preheated oven 110ºC, fan 90ºC, gas ¼ for 60 minutes, then turn the oven off and let the meringues sit for another 30 minutes.

  • 5. Decorate with chocolate buttons by attaching with a drop of melted chocolate, and serve as a fun treat that will disappear in seconds.
