1. Place all dry ingredients in a bowl and mix together. Stir in the buttermilk to form a wet dough.
2. Divide evenly between two 2lb loaf tins which have been dusted with wheat germ. Make a cross on the top of each one and sprinkle with sesame seeds and wheat germ.
3.Place in a preheated oven 230 C(210 for fan oven)for 10 minutes. Reduce to 140 C (120 for fan oven) and bake for 1 hour.
4. Cool for 10 minutes in tins and then cool completely on a wire rack.
