Beef in Red Wine

Ingredients

  • 2lb stewingbeef
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion
  • 1 big tablespoon plain flour
  • 425ml red wine
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 12oz small onions
  • 8oz bacon
  • 4oz button mushrooms
  •  salt and pepper

Method

Pre_heat oven at 180c. In a large casserole pan fry of the meat until browned in batches. remove from pan and set aside, add onion to pan and brown. re add the meat and the flour to soak up the juices, then add the wine a little at a time stirring all the time. Cook in the oven for 2 hours.Then fry bacon and whole onions together until browned and add to casserole with mushrooms, cook for another 30 mins then serve.
