Grate cheese and thinly slice ham. Place one layer in an ovenproof dish and cover with half of the cream. Make two wells in the mixture and break an egg into each. Place another layer of cheese and ham over the eggs and cover with the remaining cream (sprinkle any leftover cheese over the top). Bake in the middle of a hot oven for approximately 35-40 minutes until set and golden brown on the top. Service with thick slices of tiger bread.
This was served to us by a French lady whom we met for the first time on holiday several years ago. We had sliced melon to start, this dish for main with lots of French bread, followed by tinned pears for dessert! It was her own recipe which we have used time and time again - great for when you don't have much food in the fridge, very filling.
