In a large bowl, whip the mascarpone and custard together until fully combined.
Using half of the madeira cake fingers, dip them into the cooled coffee and optional spirit. Then place them in the bottom of each of four serving glasses.
Top with a little of the chocolate, followed by a layer of the creamy mascarpone and custard mixture.
Repeat the layers once more, finishing with a scattering of chocolate for decoration. Chill until you're ready to serve.
