Method

  • The Filling:

  • Put the potatoes and onion to boil, while in another pan cook the mince, add to the mince the veg and beef stock cubes mixed with a little water (like a paste)add the hendersons when the meat is brown, add to this the tin of stew steak until all thick rich and creamy looking, add the potatoes and black pepper. Place in a large pie bowl or smaller tin foil trays (make a big pie or 6 small ones)

  • The Pastry:

  • Mix flour, marg and lard until it comes together like bread crumbs add water to combine. Roll out to the size of the pie dish or trays, place over the hot meat and cook for 20-20 mins until pie is golden brown.

  • Serve
  • Tips

    • - add veg for an all in pie
      - use corn flour to thicken if the gravy is too thick inside
      - if made in tin foil trays can be frozen - including the pastry
      - rice flour is good for this pastry if wanting gluten free

    • PASTRY
    • 8 oz Flour (self raising)
    • 2 oz margarine or butter
    • 2 oz lard
    • 1 tsp salt
    •  water to add as required
    • THE FILLING
    • 500 g Mince beef
    • 1 tin Stewing Steak
    • 2 diced potatoes
    • 2 diced onion
    • 1 vegetable stock cube
    • 2 tbsp Sheffield's Hendersons Relish
    • pinch Black pepper
    • 1 Beef Stock Cube
    •  water to add as required
