Shepherds Pie

Method

  • 1 Cook onion in pyrex dish in the microwave with a knob of cooking spread on high for 4 mins

  • 2 Brown the mince, drain and return to the pan (keep off the heat) and season with salt and pepper

  • 3 Mix the gravy powder with a little water in a cup.

  • 4 Drain the onion and add to the mince.

  • 5 Add the carrots and peas.

  • 6 Make up gravy to about 1 3/4 cups and add to the meat mixture.

  • 7 Put back on the heat and stir continuously until bubbling.

  • 8 Cover and simmer for 15-20

  • 9 Transfer into a large pyrex dish and cover with a net. Allow to cool/set for 1.5 - 2 hours.

  • 10 Boil potatoes for about 20 mins or until cooked. Drain and stand for 5 minutes before mashing with a food mixer. Add a little butter (and milk if dry).

  • 11 Add potato to the top of the meat.

  • 12 Cook for 1 -1.5 hours at 180 oc.

  • (Can be stored overnight in the fridge and the step 12 can be done the following day.)

    • 1 Large Onion (diced)
    • 2 Carrots (grated)
    • ½ bag Frozen peas
    • 1 Minced beef
    • ¾ bag Potatoes
    • 2 ½ tsp Original Bisto Gravy Powder
    •  Cooking spread
    •  Butter
    •  Salt pepper to taste
    •  Water

    Sue Martel's Shepherds Pie. This is actually a Cottage Pie but has been passed down two generations as Shepherds pie so I wouldn't like to change it.
