Method

  • For Barad-dûr:
  • To make the Eye of Sauron, put a pickled onion in a shot glass of watered down red food colouring, once dyed use a dot of black food colouring to represent the pupil.
  • To create the tower, thread sausages onto four bamboo skewers, using pieces of peperami to provide cross-links between them.
  • Use four burgers to provide a base for the tower.
  • Create the ramparts for the top of the tower using peperami.
  • Insert another bamboo skewer running down the centre of the tower and place the 'Eye of Sauron' pickled onion at the top.
  • Thoroughly mix the sausage meat with black food colouring and surround the base of the tower.

  • For Mount Doom:
  • Combine beef mince, kidney beans and onion and lightly fry. Add chilli con carne sauce and simmer until ready.
  • Using supreme skill, soften the lasagne sheets and use them to construct the volcano, filling the inside with the chilli.
  • Dye approximately 100g of sausage meat red, and use it to decorate the sides of the mountain with lava flows.
  • Dye the remaining sausage meat black and surround the foot of the mountain creating the plains of Mordor.
  • Make cracks in the plains of Mordor and fill them with blighted rivers of barbeque sauce.

  • To cook:
  • Remove all shelving from oven and realise you have still made Barad-dûr too tall. Make the necessary adjustments to get it to fit.
  • Cook on 200C for about four hours, constantly opening the oven door for minutes at a time to check if it is cooked and to re-engineer the structural supports on Barad-dûr.

    • Tips

    • Play Lord of the Rings Trivial pursuit while waiting.
      To serve, play "The End of All Things" from the Lord of the Rings soundtrack and give everyone a fork.
      The burgers will still be almost completely raw and should be avoided.
