      Hi - It wasn't too difficult I made the individual cakes and put ribbons round the cake and the silver foil strips for the drums - the symbols were plates covered in gold foil and all of it stood on a stand that I actually borrowed but i know you can hire these from cake bake stores

      How do you put the whole thing together? What did you use to decorate the drums? What did you use for the symbol?

      Thanks Olga ..I think he did love it ...but then again he is a teenager so doesnt really say very much!

      Carol this looks like an amazing cake - did you make it yourself, if so you are very creative, I'm sure Tom must have loved it?

    Ingredients

    • 3 eggs
    • 1 cup caster sugar
    • 1 cup S R Flour
    • 2 tsp baking powder
    • 1 tsp vanilla essence
    • ½ cup milk
    • 2 oz butter
    • 1 tbsp cocoa
    • 1 tbsp drinking chocolate

    Method

    1. 1. Sift the dry ingredients THREE times to make this sponge light and fluffy.
    2. 2. Beat the eggs then add in sugar and keep beating in a mixer until white thick and creamy.
    3. 3. Add vanilla to eggs and sugar
    4. 4. Add in dry ingredients slowly and meanwhile put milk and butter into a saucepan and heat up slowly until it bubbles and rises.
    5. 5. Once you have finished adding in dry ingredients - pour in the bubbling butter and milk mixture.
    6. 6. Pour into 2 greased 8" cake tins and cook in a hot preheated oven (190) for 20 minutes. Then leave to cool and ice with my buttercream icing.

      • 150g cake flour sifted
      • 6 whole egg
      • 1 tsp. cake mix, vanilla
      • 1.5 tsp. baking powder
      • 75g butter
      • 200g sugar

      Method

      1. 1. Sift the flour and baking powder.Three times.

      2. 2. Melt the butter in a small pan.Let cool.

      3. 3. Separate the egg whites and yolks . Next beat egg white until they become white and frothy.

      4. 4. Add sugar little by little and continue beat until sugar dissolves.

      5. 5. Next add the egg yolk and beat about 5 minutes.After that combine flour [baking powder],melted butter and vanilla.Mix well.[using a rubber spatula]

      6. 6. Pour sponge cake batter in 9x 9 inch baking pan that have been greased with butter and floured.

      7. 7. Pre heat oven to 180 c degrees and bake the cake for 25 minutes.

      8. 8. The cake is ready you can lightly press on it with your finger and if it is bouncy it is ready.

      9. 9. Remove cake from oven and let cool ,before decorating it.When the cake cool spread butter icing on to the top of cake .

      10. 10. Now decorate with flowers.I made them gum paste.

        Ingredients

        •  
        • FOR THE CAKE
        • 175g Self Raising flour
        • 175g caster sugar
        • 175g margarine
        • 3 eggs
        • ½-1 tsp vanilla essence (optional)
        •  
        • ICING AND DECORATING
        • 100g butter-softened
        • 200g icing sugar
        • just a few drops green food colouring
        • roughly about 8 tbls ? chocolate vermicelli or sprinkles
        • small amount white water icing
        •  some toy cars
        •  jam and butter icing for middle of cakes

        Method

        1. Make the cake by heating oven to 180oC, greasing 2 round cake tins.

        2. Put all cake ingreidients into food processor and mix together until smooth.

        3. Divide between the two tins and bake in oven for about 25 minutes or until middle is cooked and it is starting to come away from sides.

        4. Once cooked turn out onto cooling rack until cold.

        5. To decorate:
        6. Cut small semi circle out of one cake so when put together it looks like an 8. Cut both cakes in half horizontally and fill with jam and butter cream.

        7. Using piping bag, pipe green icing all over. Put chocolate sprinkles in shape of an 8 and decorate this bit with small white lines to look like a road markings. Place small cars on road.
