Wine to Keep

Question: It's my husbands 40th next week and I want to buy him some nice wine - would be good to have some bottles he could lie down and keep for a few years (he's not very good at that and usually drinks wine by the case as soon as it is delivered!!). Any suggestions??

I think you should lock the wine away and you should keep the key :) Seriously though, I tend to buy wine that I know is good for drinking now as well as wine that will improve over time (most good wine merchants will be able to advise you on this). I then stash away the wine I wish to let mature and just forget about it. I am not tempted to open it as I have the evrey day "table wine" wine to hand to go with my meal on an evening.

cont... In short, unless you want to get in to the realms of knowing your Chateau Latife from your Chateau Latour, go for top-end new world. They’ll be ready to drink now if you want, but will have the quality to last if you want to save them for special occasions. I would seriously, SERIOUSLY, recommend you have a look at www.rustenberg.co.za. Rustenberg is South Africa’s oldest wine producing estate and one the most highly regarded wineries in the world. There wines are completely user friendly whilst retaining the kind of complexity and depth you’d expect from a top Bordeaux. They are very nice people and if you contact them I’m sure they will help you pick the right wine and tell you how long it will keep, or when best to drink it. Good Luck!
