Chef's Tips
This is just delicious served warm and fresh out of the oven with a light spreading of butter. Not terribly healthy or slimming I know but hey..... give it a go!
Got everything together then saw there was no measurement of the bicarb so guessed it and it was wrong so turned out horrible, will try again when the amount is added , maybe just on my laptop but waiting to try again
What a great idea. I do find that if you do not grease the cake ting properly the bread can stick when trying to get it out. I gues with the greaseproof paper or the loaf liners this is almost impossible. Thanks i' will give this a go.
Have made this lots of times, great recipe! I use greaseproof paper or more recently loaf liners which I bought in Asda.
WOW what a great idea - I bet it adds a bit of a kick as well - I will definately try that - thanks for the tip!
I do a similar recipe adding sultanas instead of nuts. As a special treat I soak the sultanas overnight in a little rum, its yummy, everyone loves it
Excellent recipe. Literally just warm from the oven... couldn't stop myself from cutting it :)
Hi Catherine - how did it turn out? Sorry I did not see your comment earlier - Dates sound like a lovely addition!
Ive just tried this recipe for the first time because of all the lovely comments..I've tried adding some dates just because i found them in the cupboard. Hopefully it works!
I plan on making this as soon as the bananas I have go over ripe, I love Banana Bread!
Hi Mum4ever - what a great idea, I had never considered adding blueberries - I'll definately give it a go - what excellent innovation and a great variation on this old recipe.
I'm still making this recipe every week and I'm not surprised it is so popular on My Dish. Blueberries work wonderfully with this recipe instead of the nuts.
I made this with some trepidation, my family were coming for Sunday lunch and were tempted to taste it before lunch was served - they all loved it!!! It really is so simple and quick to make, and I know I'll have to make it again and again. Thank you, I'll certainly pass the recipe on to my friends
oops! - but one can actually use salted butter, just leave out the 1/2 a teaspoon of salt that the recipe asks for or the bread will definately taste too salty.
Very nice recipe.
I made the mistake of using salted butter (nearest to hand) which probably wasn't the best idea!
Wow what a great idea - will definately give the cinemon a try next time
Nice recipe Kenny - thanks!
Being a fan of the stuff, I added a little cinammon to the ingredients and felt it just gave it that extra little "something"
Hi nannyannie - my other half made this for her uncle and aunt on Sunday as well! They do not often come over for tea so she wanted to impress. Needless to say it did not fail - her uncle coming back for seconds - there were also general votes of appreciation from all quarters of the table - kids included :-) Maureen's Banana Bread does it again!!!!
made this on sunday easy to make but absolutely gorgeous
Hi Jooles - yes it works for all, no matter the age - galde you'r loving it -enjoy - regards - kenny
|Hi Kenny, they're not really kids anymore but large adults Ha, thats another reason the cake doesnt last long !! but still good for them as they are learning and bananas are good as they give energy. so a win win situation. Thanks for the recipe.
now making this cake for the 3rd time, sometimes with nuts, sometimes without. depends on how i feel !! its so easy and delious. takes 10 mins to make if that and the oven does the rest. my family loves it .
Hi Jooles - glad you are enjoying it. My kids also go mad for it. No sooner is it out of the oven than they have demolished it - sounds like you are having the same problem - nice problem to have mind you - and also very healthy for the kids - certainly better than junk food! - Regards Kenny.
I am now about to make this banana cake again but this time for my daughter's student mates, last time one said it was the best cake they had ever tasted.
Lovely !! soooo easy to make.

Hi pamela - so glad you liked it - mum would be delighted - yeh! I think one of the best things about it is the lovely aroma while baking - hope it becomes a firm favourite - all the best - kenny
I made your banana bread this morning. Very easy and delicious - and my flat smells lovely! Pam xo
Hi mum4ever - glad you like it - BTW I sometimes pop the butter in the micto (just for a few secs - literally) to soften it and then much easier to fold into the mix - regards - K.
Hi, just wanted to add that I too made this today and it was gorgeous mmmmmm...
I actually used a little less (10g less)butter, merely because it was difficult to mix in as I hadn't left it soften long enough, but it still tasted great!
Hi littlebabs ....what an excellent idea, I have never thougfht of freezing the banana before. I must say I do throw the occasional one away as we have just too many even for the brea. - thanks for the tip - best regards Kenny.
Great... I too like banana bread.if you have got cheap overripe bananas from supermarket or have bought some that are now overripe, you can peel and freeze them, even the odd one mounts up.They are great for mashing for this bread
Glad you liked it and your most welcome!
Hi Nicki - what a great idea! I'm sure youΓ’β¬β’re right - IΓ’β¬β’ll look out for the reduced section next time I'm at Tesco. Hey, now looking forward to loads more banana bread...yumΓ’β¬Β¦ yum!!
Tesco normally has over ripe banans in the reduced bit by the veggies. You can buy loads of banans for very little. Which is very useful if you like bananas and want to make banana bread.
Thanks evepepper It certainly is easy and quick to make and tastes fab too - give it a go and let me know how you get on.
I love banana bread, this recipe is so simple..great!x
Di Dan - Yeh itβs really simple. Just remove the banana peel and, with the back of a fork, crush the banana until the pulp is achieved. It actually helps if the banana is very ripe / over ripe as the banana is then much softer and easier to crush. Also when you are stirring in the pulp to the rest of the mixture, before baking, donβt over-stir it, and just make sure the pulp is βfoldedβ into the fixture.
How does one make banana pulp? Do you just mash up a few bananas?
