Description
Transport yourself back to medieval times with these delightful wafer biscuits, now enhanced with a modern twist. Their buttery, crumbly texture and hint of sweetness make them irresistible, and you might just find yourself guarding the stash closely. Perfectly golden and best enjoyed fresh from the oven, these treats are sure to disappear quickly, leaving you wondering if theyβll last the weekβthough, based on experience, they likely wonβt!
Method
-
1
Sieve the flour into a mixing bowl.
-
2
Add the salt and rub in the butter.
-
3
When the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs, add the cream and the golden syrup.
-
4
You may need to add a little extra flour to remove some of the stickiness.
-
5
Don't even try to roll it out, it'll just stick everywhere.
-
6
The dough should come away from the side of the bowl easily, but if manipulated, the stickiness will come back.
-
7
Mould into the desired shape.
-
8
Place on a non-stick (but not greased!) baking tray.
-
9
Preheat oven at gas mark 2.
-
10
Bake for 20 minutes, until the biscuits start to go a golden brown colour.
-
11
Leave to cool (if you can!) then enjoy.
-
12
These biscuits will retain their freshness for up to a week if kept in the fridge.

Though they may last longer... just my batches are never around long enough to put that to the test!
