- 1kg Beef braising Steak (cut into large slices)
- 3 onions. finely sliced
- 300ml red wine
- 300ml beef stock
- 4 tbsp cranberry sauce
- 4 tbsp Flour for dusting
- olive oil to fry
- salt and pepper to season

Preheat the oven to gas mark 4.

Cut the meat into large slices. Coat all the pieces in seasoned flour. Thinly slice the onions.

Heat olive oil in a large heavy based pan. Add the beef and fry on all sides until evenly browned (you may need to do this in more than one batch). Remove to a plate.

Heat a little more oil (if needed), add the onions and fry for about 5 minutes until tinged brown.

Return the beef to the pan. Add the wine and stock until boiling. Stir and scrape up the juices and season.

Place in the oven for 1 and 1/2 hours until beef is tender. Stir in the cranberry sauce and return to oven for 5 more minutes.

Serve with creamy mashed potato and a scattering of flat leaf parsley.
