Method

  1. 1

    Preheat oven to 180Β°C (350Β°F).

  2. 2

Grease and line a 9-inch round cake pan with parchment paper.

  3. 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine 200g of all-purpose flour, 200g of granulated sugar, 75g of unsweetened cocoa powder, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and a pinch of salt. Whisk until well combined.

  4. 4

In another bowl, mix 2 large eggs, 120ml of whole milk, 60ml of vegetable oil, and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract until smooth.

  5. 5

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.

  6. 6

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

  8. 8

While the cake cools, prepare the chocolate ganache by heating 200ml of heavy cream in a saucepan over medium heat until it begins to simmer. Remove from heat and add 200g of chopped dark chocolate, stirring until smooth and glossy.

  9. 9

Once the cake is completely cool, slice it in half horizontally to create two layers. Spread a layer of ganache on the bottom layer, then place the top layer back on.

  10. 10

Pour the remaining ganache over the top of the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides. Let it set for about 30 minutes before serving.
