Description

This Spiced Lamb Shepherd's Pie is a delightful twist on the traditional British classic. With a flavorful lamb filling infused with aromatic spices and topped with creamy mashed potatoes, this dish is sure to impress your family and friends while bringing warmth to your dining table.

Method

    Preheat your oven to 200ยฐC.

    In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add 1 diced onion and sautรฉ for 5 minutes until softened.

    Stir in 2 cloves of minced garlic, 1 teaspoon of ground cumin, and 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika. Cook for an additional 2 minutes until fragrant.

    Add 500g of ground lamb to the skillet, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Cook until browned, about 7-10 minutes.

    Stir in 1 tablespoon of tomato paste, 150ml of beef stock, and 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce. Allow the mixture to simmer for 10 minutes to thicken, then season with salt and pepper to taste.

    Transfer the lamb filling into a baking dish evenly. Spread it out with a spatula.

    Boil 700g of peeled potatoes in salted water for 15 minutes until fork-tender. Drain and return them to the pot.

    Mash the potatoes with 50g of butter, 100ml of milk, and season with salt and pepper until smooth and creamy.

    Spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the lamb filling. Use a fork to create a pattern on top.

    Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes or until the top is golden brown and slightly crispy.
