Bolognese Sauce

Bolognese Sauce to add to pasta, or create a pasta bake


Using a thick based saucepan add the olive oil and allow it to warm up.

Now add the chopped onion and allow those to begin to sizzle.

Add the oregano, basil, garlic (crushed), mixed herbs (optional).

Cook the onions until they become soft and shiny and just beginning to brown at the edges.

Add mince, and break it down thoroughly (don’t leave any big lumps). At the same time mixing in with herbs and onion mixture.

Once the mince start to go brown add the tomato paste.

Then when meat is thoroughly brown through add the tomatoes and flavour with salt and pepper to your liking.

Leave to simmer gently on a low heat for about 10-20 mins.

Serve immediately together with the pasta of your choice or use in a pasta bake or lasagne.


Balsamic Vinegar 2 tsp
Tomato Paste 1 tbsp
Tomatos Chopped 1 can/ 5 fresh
Minced Beef/ Meat 450gms
Virgin Olive Oil 1 tbsp
Small Onion 1
Garlic Clove 1
Basil 1 tsp
Oregano 1 tsp
Salt pinch
Pepper pinch
Mixed Herbs 1 tsp

Just making bolognese sauce from your recipe and I noticed that there is balsamic vinigar on the list, however is missing in the method so I ca only assume you put it in any where.
@dilmunseal yes that's right you can add the balsamic vinigar at any time but probably best to leave it to the end and just add it before the final cooking stage
