- 80g (2ΒΎ oz) unsalted butter softened
- 90g (1/3 cup/ 3oz) caster sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- Β½ teaspoon Vanilla essence
- 125 g (1 cup/4 oz) self raising flour sifted
- 40g (1/3 cup/ 1 ΒΌ oz) custard powder
- a teaspoon in each drop Jam of your choice

This is great for a dessert but also for afternoon tea. Definitely one of the favourites in our household!

1. Preheat the oven to 180oC (350oF/Gas mark 4). Line two baking trays with baking paper.
2. Cream the butter and sugar in a small mixing bowl with electric beaters until light and fluffy. Add the milk and vanilla essence and beat until well combined. Add the sifted flour and custard powder and mix to form a soft dough. Roll heaped teaspoons of the mixture into balls and place on the prepared trays.
3. Make an indentation in each ball using the end of a spoon and fill each with the jam.
4. Bake for 15 minutes, cool slightly and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
