Description
I made this with some apples and pears from my friends garden, the apples were a little bitter so the pears took that edge off it, it turned out very delicious!
Method
-
1
Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas Mark 4
For the Crumble...
Place the sieved flour and sugar in to a large bowl and mix well. Taking a few cubes of butter at a time rub in to the flour mixture. Keep rubbing until the mix looks like breadcrumbs (make sure there are no butter lumps it needs to be fine)
For the Filling...
Butter a 9 inch ovenproof dish. Lay the sliced fruit to cover the bottom, a layer of apples and then sprinkle halfof the 50g of sugar over them evenly, then place the sliced pears on top sprinkling the rest of the sugar evenly over the top of these.
Sprinkle the crumble mix evenly over the top of all of the fruit, covering every part.
Bake in the oven for 40-45 minutes until it is browned and the fruit mixture is bubbling.
Serve with Cream/ Ice Cream or Custard.
Chef's Tips
I also put a small layer of raspberries at the bottom of one that I made when I had a few left over from making Jam, just a very thin layer, adds a bit of colour and a little more depth.
Alternatively - double up the apples and just have a good old Apple Crumble :o)
