Description

These tasty Christmas treats are perfect for sharing with family and friends at Christmas time.

Method

  1. 1

    1. Preheat the oven to 190 C.
    2. Sift the flour, ground ginger and bicarbonate of soda into a large bowl. Add the butter chunks.
    3. Rub the butter into the flour with your fingers until it is like fine breadcrumbs. Stir in the sugar.
    4. Break the egg into a small bowl, then add the syrup. Beat well with a fork, then stir the egg mixture into the flour.
    5. Mix with a metal spoon until you make a dough. Sprinkle flour onto a work surface. Put the dough on it.
    6. Stretch the dough by pushing it away from you. Fold it in half and repeat. Carry on doing this until it is smooth.
    7. Sprinkle more flour onto the work surface. Cut the dough in half. Roll out one half until it is 5mm thick.
    8. Use different types of Christmas cutters (Santa's, Xmas trees, reindeer etc) to cut out lots of different shapes. Then, lift the shapes onto 2 greased baking trays with a fish slice.
    9. Roll out the rest of the dough and cut out more shapes. Put them on the baking trays, then put the baking trays in the oven.
    10. Bake the biscuits for 12-15 mins. They will turn golden brown. Carefully lift the baking trays from the oven once they are done.
    11. Leave the biscuits on the trays for about 5 mins. Then, lift them onto a wire rack. Leave them to cool.
    12. When the biscuits are cold, ice them in all different colours. Put sprinkles, lollies and any other decorations you can think of.
    13. Enjoy these tasty treats with family and friends!
