Ingredients
- 450gm (1lb) Stoned dates
- 3 cups Plain Flour
- 2 cups Boiling water
- 3 Eggs
- 2 teasp vanilla essence
- 2 teasp bicarbonate of soda
- 150gm (1/3lb) butter or margarine
- 2 teasp Baking powder

1. Cut up dates and place in a bowl and add bicarbonate of soda and boiling water. Allow to cool slowly.
2. Melt the butter.
3. Beat egg and sugar well, add date mixture, melted butter and vanilla and mix well.
4. Then add flour mixed with baking powder and mix well.
5. Bake in 2 greased loaf tins for 1 hour at 180C/350F/gas3.
6. This date loaf can be frozen and will keep for several months in the freezer.

in the ingredients there isnt any sugar can you tell me if it should be soft brown and the same amount as butter
